The Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the preeminent cultural institutions in the world, seeks a professional to be responsible for the direction, oversight, management, and electronic production of documentation and interpretative material on the Museum's collection; to facilitate efficient delivery of this information to a variety of audiences, both in the networked environment and in the galleries; to oversee information and collections management, application of standards and best practices; and to promote digital initiatives as appropriate.
The General Manager of Digital Media reports to the Director and Associate Director for Collections and Administration, and in close dialogue with the President's Office, defines the overall strategy and work flow process of the newly created Department of Digital Media. He/she oversees the functional realignment of the following specialized groups into an integrated department: Collections Management, Website, Film and Video, Timeline of Art History and Connections, Publishing and Design, and Digital Strategy; provides strategic guidance, establishes priorities and objectives for the Digital Media Department; identifies, plans, and implements best practices and standards compliance in the acquisition, management and preservation of data assets; ensures close collaboration and partnership with IS&T, Editorial, Image Library, and other departments; advises the Director and Associate Director on best practices, and innovative approaches to the management of cultural resources and dissemination to a wider public. The General Manager stays abreast of related activities/initiatives of other museums, libraries and others in the field of digital media; facilitates collaboration within the department and across the Museum for all media-related projects; assesses and responds to new project requests for interpretive content and digital media initiatives from all departments; prioritizes and coordinates requests for resources in collections management and access across the museum; ensures the coordination of workflow and assignments to various staff members and teams within the department; maintains a matrix of all client requests, prioritizes and makes assignments, monitors the flow of traffic, and coordinates production schedules and serves as the main departmental contact for digital projects; leads and manages the digital content from conception, design and launch; manages and directs staff, conducting annual performance evaluations as well as clear and directed opportunities for staff development; prepares and oversees annual operating budgets, multi-year forecasts for equipment maintenance, equipment changes and/or purchases, facilities needs and staffing requirements; and perform other related duties as necessary.

Qualifications Required
Qualifications include a related undergraduate or postgraduate degree with art museum experience preferred; a minimum of 7 years experience in digital media technologies, collections management and documentation, data management, content delivery and digital strategy; experience setting team goals and managing staff with diverse functions and skills. The ideal candidate will demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and verbal, is not only well-organized but highly motivated, detail-oriented and able to work under time-bound guidelines.
